  • MobileIron: the catalyst for a mobile workplace

In the past, you would go to work, sit at your desk and use the desktop computer provided by your company to access your networks and applications. If you needed to use another device or application, you had to go through the IT department and ask for permission. This process was slow and tedious, and often resulted in lost productivity.

Today, the workplace is changing. Employees use a variety of devices: smartphones, tablets, laptops, to stay productive while working from anywhere. They need easy access to their networks and applications, no matter what device they are using. That's where MobileIron comes in.

What exactly is MobileIron?

MobileIron's software is used to manage and secure corporate data on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. It is a competitor to other EMM software companies such as AirWatch, BlackBerry, iPhone, iPad, Android and earlier mobile devices like Symbian and Windows Phone.

MobileIron is a software company that offers a mobile device management (EMM) solution. This type of software helps to manage and secure corporate data on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. MobileIron went public in 2014. The company has been criticised for its high price, complex configuration and lack of customer support.

Despite these criticisms, MobileIron remains a popular choice for companies looking for an EMM solution. This is because MobileIron offers a number of features that are not available in other EMM solutions. For example, MobileIron allows employees to use corporate applications on their personal devices without compromising security. MobileIron also offers a service that allows developers to create custom applications for their company. We'll go into more detail later.

If you are considering using MobileIron for your business, here are some things to keep in mind:

MobileIron is a complex and expensive solution. It may not be the best choice for small businesses or businesses on a tight budget.

MobileIron requires careful configuration and planning. Make sure you have the resources and expertise to properly configure and manage the system.

Its history

MobileIron Inc. was a US-based software company that provided unified endpoint and enterprise mobility management (EMM) for mobile devices, such as multifactor authentication (MFA). The company announced in September 2020 that it had been acquired by Ivanti. MobileIron was founded in 2007 by Ajay Mishra and Suresh Batchu.

Its headquarters are located in Mountain View, California. The company provides a mobile security and management platform for smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. MobileIron was an early pioneer in the mobile security space and continues to be a leading provider of mobile management solutions. The company went public in 2014 on the NASDAQ under the symbol MOBL. MobileIron's stock has been volatile, but the company remains a leading player in the mobile management space.

MobileIron persisted and reached new heights

MobileIron's founding CEO, Bob Tinker, was replaced by Barry Mainz as CEO. However, Tinker remained on the company's board. In October 2017, Simon Biddiscombe was appointed CEO. Under Biddiscombe's leadership, MobileIron has continued to grow and expand its product offering.

The company has also been recognised for its innovation, winning numerous awards including 'Best Enterprise Mobility Management Solution' and 'Best Mobile Security Product'.

The Ivanti takeover

MobileIron, a leading provider of security and management solutions for mobile devices, was acquired by Ivanti on 1 December 2020. The acquisition was announced in September, and the final purchase price was $872 million. Companies around the world use Network General's products to secure and manage data on mobile devices.

With the addition of MobileIron's products, Ivanti will be able to offer a complete suite of solutions for mobile device management. The acquisition will also help Ivanti expand its presence in the enterprise mobility management market.

Its market and the benefits of its solutions

MobileIron's software enables the security and management of mobile devices. As of June 2015, it held approximately 9.2% of the global EMM market share. MobileIron's products are used by organisations to manage and secure mobile devices and apps.

The company offers a suite of products that includes a mobile device management (MDM) platform, a mobile app management (MAM) platform and a security platform.

In 2015 and 2016, MobileIron was mentioned in the trade press for its innovative technology and fast growing customer base.

Since 2016, MobileIron's main competitors have been Microsoft's enterprise mobility suite and IBM. Other major EMM competitors include SAP, Dell/VMWare and BlackBerry. BlackBerry entered the EMM market after acquiring previously independent vendors Sybase, AirWatch and Good Technology.

In January 2018, MobileIron partnered with Google Cloud to distribute Google apps through MobileIron's EMM platform and provide a secure portal of apps and service portal.

MobileIron's solutions help businesses protect their data and productivity by securing mobile devices, applications and content. The company has more than 10,000 customers worldwide, including Fortune 500 companies, government agencies and large enterprises.

IT professionals are always looking for ways to streamline their workflows and increase efficiency. One way to do this is to maintain a single source of truth for all asset data. This ensures that all data is accurate and up-to-date, and that there is no need to track multiple spreadsheets or shadow assets.

In addition, a single source of truth can help reduce the time required to consolidate and harmonise asset data. By consolidating all data in one place, IT professionals can quickly and easily see all of their assets, understand service mapping dependencies and eliminate security vulnerabilities.

Therefore, maintaining a single source of truth can save IT professionals valuable time and resources.

Why are the products effective?

Today, most organisations rely heavily on technology to operate effectively and efficiently. Therefore, it is essential to understand the costs associated with IT assets and how to optimise these costs.

Cost optimisation involves making informed decisions about the performance and health of your assets to avoid unnecessary purchases. In addition, it is important to reduce downtime and improve productivity by identifying critical assets and potential risks to service availability.

By having an overview of your IT investments, you can make informed decisions that will save your organisation money.
